These fish usually live in hilly streams or near rapids, in clear, fast-flowing water. They have a jet black line extending from the tip of the mouth to the end of the caudal fin. They have two barbels on the snout. They feed on periphyton and phytoplankton.
Interesting facts
When the fish is frightened, stressed or sick, its black line turns considerably more pale.
