The fried egg jellyfish has a flat umbrella with a darker colored slight convex protuberance. Under the umbrella, which resembles a fried egg, there are 8 large main arms and several smaller tentacles isolated below with white and purple ends. The typical yellow color is caused by the symbiotic algae that live in its tissues. It feeds on zooplankton. It is the most common jellyfish of its entire order in the Mediterranean Sea.
