The slender goby is a solitary and territorial fish that lives on sandy or muddy bottoms or near Neptune grass (posidonia) meadows and at depths of between 5 and 30 m. Their body is light brown with dark rectangular spots, mixed with lighter ones. They have an irregular dark spot below the eyes that differentiates them from the rest of the species of the same family. Their head is large and elongated, with remarkably thick lips and very prominent eyes. Their cheeks have numerous pores and nostrils with small fleshy tentacles.
Like most gobies, they usually rest on the bottom without moving to capture their prey. They feed on small crustaceans and other invertebrates. They reproduce from April to June, and during that period the males change colour to darker tones.
