This fish lives on reefs and at depths of up to 12 m. They feed on algae, small crustaceans, small fish and invertebrate larvae. They are silvery-grey with a yellowish back and five black bars on the sides. The reproduction of this species is oviparous, with the males being in charge of creating a nest in which the females will deposit the eggs that the male will fertilise. The clutches are incredibly numerous and are cared for by the male.
Interesting facts
During the breeding season and after the eggs are laid, males increase the blue colour of their bodies.
