The brown meagre a fish found on rocky bottoms at shallow depths —between 5 and 20 m— and can often be found in underwater caves and tunnels. It is a gregarious species that forms groups of between 5 and 30 individuals. Their fins are dark, but the spines of the ventral and anal fins are white and very visible. Their dorsal and caudal fins have a black border on the back. They feed on small fish, crustaceans and molluscs, preferably at night.
Interesting facts
This fish has a very marked lateral line. The lateral line is the fish’s sixth sense, which allows them to detect the presence of obstacles or other individuals that are nearby without seeing them.
